Twp years of fundraising finally paid off when a Heston church's iconic spire was replaced just before Christmas.

Parishioners at Our Lady Queen of Apostles, in Heston Green, collected about £12,000 for the new spire and cross after an inspection found the old structure was rotting from the inside.

Musicians from places of worship in Hounslow will be taking part in an exciting and unusual concert on Saturday 21 November. The groups, from St Michael and St Martin's Church, the Laxmi Narayan Hindu Temple in Neville Close and the Sikh Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Alice Way are presenting music as heard in worship in 'Music from the Faiths'. Other contributions will include Anglican and Russian Orthodox Church Choirs, Jewish music, plus the Muslim call to prayer and Quaker silence.

There will be a chance to visit four places of worship in Hounslow on Sunday 21st June by joining the annual Walk of Peace and Friendship organised by Hounslow Friends of Faith. This year the event focuses on Hounslow West, a compact area with a rich variety of places of worship.

On Thursday 4th June there will be a chance to hear from the Hindu community in Hounslow about the basic philosophy and every day practices of Hinduism today. Hindus believe that God exists in everything in the universe and there is a responsibility to care for the earth in everything we do. Hinduism is the oldest of the world major religions and the third largest.

Martin Luther King stated that the choice for mankind is not between violence and non-violence, but between non-violence and continued existence. An audience in Hounslow on 7th May were reminded of this at the Younghusband Lecture, given at the annual meeting of the World Congress of Faiths (WCF) held this year in the Sikh Gurdwara in Alice Way.

Gurdwara-Alice-Way-26.5.07.jpgSikhs have been living in the borough for over 35 years and the gleaming towers of the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha are now a well-known part of the skyline of Hounslow.

On Thursday 5th February there is a chance to hear about the history, principles and every day practices of Sikhism at the Gurdwara in Alice Way, Hounslow TW3 3UA.

Carol singers will do their best to cheer up last-minute shoppers at Tesco's Bulls Bridge store in Southall on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Parishioners from the churches of St Dunstan and Holy Angels in Cranford will perform classic festive tunes from 7-9pm each day.

Imam-Sueimani-and-3-members.jpgHounslow Friends of Faith welcomed the Imam of Hounslow Jamia Mosque and Islamic Centre, Sheik Nisar Ahmad Hussain Suleimani, to address their annual meeting this week, during which he stressed the need to maintain strong family values and to live a balanced life.

In a talk entitled: "Islam in Britain: its contribution to the UK and to Hounslow", the Imam said that Islam can encourage people to be spiritual. People of faith need to study scriptures for guidelines on how to live.

Ken-Livingstone-with-Villie.jpgAn imaginative eco-fashion show on Saturday led by pupils from Villiers School, Southall delivered an urgent plea to care for the planet: Recycle, Reduce and Re-use.

Their message was endorsed by former London mayor, Ken Livingstone speaking at the event, "Going Green Together", organised by Hounslow Friends of Faith.
