Brijinder Nijjar receives his awardA teenager from Heston Cadets has achieved one of the highest honours available in the organisation.

Brijinder Nijjar was singled out from nearly 4,000 youths across London to be named the Lord Lieutenants Army Cadet at a ceremony in Putney on Thursday last week.

Friends of a former 2nd Heston Scouts member are trying to track him down for a reunion this spring.

Pals of Peter Masters, who was a scout in the 50s and 60s, want him to get in touch ahead of a get-together on May 17.

Community Fundraiser, South-East London

The countdown has begun for local primary schools and youth groups to sign up for Mini Pots of Care, a fun and educational planting activity that raises funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The charity is inviting primary schools and youth groups aged 3-11 to get their hands dirty this October by growing daffodils for its Mini Pots of Care fundraiser, run in partnership with Yellow Pages directories.

Older residents have been invited to learn about Heston House at an open day next Monday, September 8.

Heston House Resource Centre, in Vicarage Farm Road, Heston, is offering local people an opportunity to learn more about the care services and activities it provides between 10am and 3pm.

Members of 192 Heston, 194 Hounslow, 203 Brentford and 197 Feltham detachments enjoyed everything from kayaking to orienteering during the two-week break.

People with multiple sclerosis (MS) will benefit from new facilities due to be officially opened next week.

Hounslow Mayor Genevieve Hibbs will cut the ribbon at Hounslow MS Society's newly extended headquarters in New Heston Road, Heston, on Monday at midday.

heston-cadets.jpgThere were cheers all round as the founder of Cobra beer presented awards to six youngsters from Heston Cadets.

Cadet Sergeant Major Adam Dickson, of St Dunstan's Road, Hounslow, and Cadet Corporal Brijinder Nijjar, of Nestles Avenue, Hayes, both received Deputy Lord Lieutenant Awards - only 80 of which are given out across Hounslow each year.
